Your Summer Fun List

Do you make lists for the Summer?

Are the lists for things you want to do with the kids? with your spouse? with your family?

Are they lists of tasks that you just really want to accomplish around the house while the weather is nice?

Those are great lists! I have those lists too, but I also have another list, which I consider to be just as important as all the others. This is a list of things that I personally want to do just for me.

You can call it self care or keeping my self a priority or whatever "label" you want to give it. All I know is that there are things that I want to do, some small, some larger, that aren't going to get done if I only make the other lists. I am also someone that isn't going to wait until retirement, or the kids are older, or this or that before I allow myself to make time for me. Yes it takes more planning and yes you need a supportive spouse or creative ways to make it happen, but you can have your own list.

What is something that you would love to do for you this summer? write it down.

Start your own list.

If you think it will be too hard, start small.

If child care is going to be difficult, swap with a friend (They watch your kids one day, you watch theirs another)

Get creative and get stubborn, If you're determined to do something on your list, you will be able to find a way!

Here's my list for this summer in case you're looking for some inspiration.

Here's some "category" suggestions that might help too

  • Something I want to learn
  • Something I want to read
  • Somewhere I want to go
  • Someone I want to see
  • One step towards a BIG goal
  • My favorite thing to eat
  • Something I always wanted to try
  • Something I loved doing as a kid
I have also seen another list that I really like, that could help with your own summer list

- 1 lunch date with a friend
- 24 hours social media free
- 1 day outdoors
- 1 night out with friends
- 1 date night
- 1 breakfast meet up with friends
- 1 date with your kids
- 1 movie night
- 1 day serving others
- 1 day to yourself

Whatever is on your list make it a priority.

A list doesn't mean everything has to get done either. A list gives you direction on what's important to you. I have had SUP-ing on my list for 3 years now, doesn't mean I failed those other 2 summers. Just means I have checked other things off my other summer lists and eventually I will be able to make SUP-ing happen!

I'm always looking for new suggestions or adventures to add to my own list, what is the first thing you would add to your list this year?!

8 Days of Thanksgiving with Kids

I love Thanksgiving. I love the weather, I love the food, and I love the time with family with no expectation of gifts. I have recently felt that Thanksgiving is becoming more and more about meals, the big dinner, and decorations and less about reflecting on what we have. I personally feel we are losing the part about recognizing how blessed we are and how thankful we should be for what and who we have in our lives. This year I want to start a tradition with the kids that allow them to show thanks for the many things they have to be thankful for. So Starting October 1st the kids and I will be recognizing our thankfulness everyday until Thanksgiving. Here is our plan: Day 1: Thankful for Toys We have a lot of toys, many that the kids do not play with nearly as much as they should. So, I could get them to go through their toys and choose some to donate, but our elf Hermie generally asks them to do that. So for them to demonstrate that they are thankful for their toys I am going...

11 Local Gift Ideas for Mom this Year

Mother's Day is just around the corner, and as a graphic circulating social media reminded me, there are no daycare and school crafts coming home this year. With our new social distancing regulations, many people, me included, don't want to go into a store "shopping" for a gift idea, and we shouldn't. So I searched for some ideas that would work within the current regulations, while also supporting some local business who are catering to this ever changing situation. In no particular order, here are my current Mother's day suggestions. March Break Staycation with Social Distancing

This March break is certainly stacking up to be significantly different from those in the past. Plans are changing by the hour and we are doing our best to not panic, keep breathing, and go with the flow as much as we can. Yesterday when I made the final decision to cancel our trip to Ottawa, I started to plan a staycation that would limit our social interaction with groups. So here is my current plan on how I am going to spend March Break with my kids. We s tocked up on dollar store craft kits. I am pretty sure we bought every craft kit that they had that was age appropriate for a 4 and 6 year old. I am going to finally sign up for Disney + and start getting them ready for what I hope to be their big March break trip next year. We are going to create and follow a routine as much as we can. My kids do best when there is a routine and they can predict what is coming next. Daily Routine Wake Up: Breakfast, Dressed, down time.  Structured Activity: ...
