The Top 12 Christmas Gifts for Ladies

I could have given you a list of items that I would personally like this year, but that wouldn’t be very helpful for you. You want to know what the lady in your life would like for Christmas. So I set out and polled my Bluenose Mommy Facebook followers to get their input on what they would like this holiday, here are the top 12 results from that poll.

Number 12: Clothing and Shoes
I love clothes and I love a good shoe, but I am THRILLED that this was one of the least chosen gift options. Let's think outside the box a little bit people. Now that being said, I wouldn’t complain if there was a pair of Toms or new sneakers under the tree.

Number 11: Planned Date Night with a Kid
Dinner and movie, ice cream and mini putt, hot chocolate and skiing/sledding, volunteering, clay cafe, etc. There are so many options for dates with kids that will be fun for both mom and kid, or neice/nephew and Aunt. Check out my kid gift guide for ideas that could be made into dates. If the child is of the fur variety, then how about coffee, dog treats, and a list of the best dog walking paths in your area, take out and new cat toys, or a ball thrower, towels, and corner store gift card?

Number 10: Hotel night just for her!
Funny enough, only the ladies who identified as moms to human and fur children chose this option… maybe they are the ones who enjoy a chaos escape the most…but this does sound glorious to me.

Number 9: Plant or Paint night
Let’s become more creative and inspire others to find their inner artist.

Number 8: Event Tickets
Sports, concerts, comedy, wine tours, festivals, etc. There is always something coming close to you or maybe splurge and make it a getaway too…..Hello, didn’t you hear the SPICE GIRLS announced a World Tour!!!!

Number 7: Exercise Gear
I know I know, this is a gift faux pas... It’s not super high on the list, but it’s still there, and higher then clothing and shoes, just FYI. I am NOT suggesting getting the lady in your life who despises working out a gym membership (although if you do think this is a good idea, I know an awesome gym, and I can hook you up with access). What I am suggesting is if you have a lady in your life who loves yoga, look at getting her a new yoga mat, yoga blocks, yoga classes at her favourite studio. If they love running, maybe a race registration, new running attire, or headphones. If they like working out at home, could they use some equipment for their space, weights, mats, motivational art, etc.

Number 6: Girls Night Out
Has it been a while since this lady has gone out of the house to hang out with just her girls? Chat with her BFF and see if there is a night coming up that you can plan a girls get together and you pick up the tab! If her BFF doesn't live close enough to get together, fly her out some weekend to see her! 😉

Number 5: Subscription Box
There are SO many possibilities here. What is a subscription box? It is a box full of items related to a specific category. The subscriber gets a new box periodically throughout the year, depending on how you sign up. It’s a gift that can keep on giving throughout the year. I just ordered the causebox and can not wait to get my first one!

Number 4: Hotel Night with Significant Other
Well now, isn’t this nice, a gift that a significant other can enjoy too! You don’t have to go far, unless you want to. Sometimes even a nice dinner, bottle of wine, and a bed in a room with no chance of your own child waking you up is an amazing gift. I remember the first night away after having my first child, my husband and I slept 12 hours. It was a glorious gift! There are still opportunities to think outside the box here too….depending on the lady in your life, don’t limit yourself to a hotel room. Look into yurts, AirBnB, domes, etc. There are lots of interesting places to stay that will just provide a unique twist to the gift.

Number 3: Professional House Cleaning
This choice was popular with all of the ladies. It did not matter if their celebrity status was a mom, married, or single. If someone wants to pay for someone else to come scrub my toilet and dust my baseboards, I am ALL for that, and other ladies seem to agree!

Number 2: Planned Date Night with Significant Other
Wow, another gift that someone else gets to enjoy as well! Whether it’s a one time date, or a year of dates, I think the key part to this piece is that it is planned by someone other than them. I’m currently working on my ultimate date list, so stay tuned for those local unique date ideas.

And the Number 1 choice is…...

Spa Day
By far the most popular choice among all ladies that participated in my poll. There are the traditional spa services like facials, manicures, pedicures, massages, etc. But why not think outside the box too and get a certificate for floating, or mud wraps, or nordic spa experiences.
And that is the conclusion of my gift idea guides for Christmas 2018!

Did I miss someone on your list that you struggle to find gift ideas for? Let me know and I can add that to my "to write" list for next year.

As you shop this holiday season though, please remember that sales associates in stores are people too. Be kind to everyone you encounter, you never know what their day has been like, and a smile and some understanding can go a VERY long way.

8 Days of Thanksgiving with Kids

I love Thanksgiving. I love the weather, I love the food, and I love the time with family with no expectation of gifts. I have recently felt that Thanksgiving is becoming more and more about meals, the big dinner, and decorations and less about reflecting on what we have. I personally feel we are losing the part about recognizing how blessed we are and how thankful we should be for what and who we have in our lives. This year I want to start a tradition with the kids that allow them to show thanks for the many things they have to be thankful for. So Starting October 1st the kids and I will be recognizing our thankfulness everyday until Thanksgiving. Here is our plan: Day 1: Thankful for Toys We have a lot of toys, many that the kids do not play with nearly as much as they should. So, I could get them to go through their toys and choose some to donate, but our elf Hermie generally asks them to do that. So for them to demonstrate that they are thankful for their toys I am going...

11 Local Gift Ideas for Mom this Year

Mother's Day is just around the corner, and as a graphic circulating social media reminded me, there are no daycare and school crafts coming home this year. With our new social distancing regulations, many people, me included, don't want to go into a store "shopping" for a gift idea, and we shouldn't. So I searched for some ideas that would work within the current regulations, while also supporting some local business who are catering to this ever changing situation. In no particular order, here are my current Mother's day suggestions. March Break Staycation with Social Distancing

This March break is certainly stacking up to be significantly different from those in the past. Plans are changing by the hour and we are doing our best to not panic, keep breathing, and go with the flow as much as we can. Yesterday when I made the final decision to cancel our trip to Ottawa, I started to plan a staycation that would limit our social interaction with groups. So here is my current plan on how I am going to spend March Break with my kids. We s tocked up on dollar store craft kits. I am pretty sure we bought every craft kit that they had that was age appropriate for a 4 and 6 year old. I am going to finally sign up for Disney + and start getting them ready for what I hope to be their big March break trip next year. We are going to create and follow a routine as much as we can. My kids do best when there is a routine and they can predict what is coming next. Daily Routine Wake Up: Breakfast, Dressed, down time.  Structured Activity: ...
